Before 1913, Pabal was local regional center (taluca). Afterward it was defined as village, which stopped growth. Approximately twenty years ago Pabal's importance began to grow again, perhaps because of the Jain Temple, which was reconstructed around that time, or because of Vigyan Ashram, which was founded 20 years ago. Recenly there has been a greater emphasis on agriculture.
